The City of Victoria Youth Advisory Council is diligently working to create a proposal to bring to the City Council in the month of June. The proposal will be surrounding the under homed population in Victoria, and ways to combat hygiene concerns on our streets. The Council is working hand in hand with local council members to prepare and educate themselves on the municipal structure here in Canada.
Many individuals in our community are unable to access needed sanitary products due to financial restraints, social stigma, or individual circumstances. These problems have become exacerbated due to COVID-19. Our team hosted a Sanitary Drive on May 28th to raise funds, donated product, and awareness surrounding Period Poverty. We teamed up with the Victoria Period Project (Victoria Period Project) to donate product back into the community, specifically to youth. Our team believes in youth supporting youth, so this partnership makes sense to our team through our core pillars at the City of Victoria Youth Advisory Council. The team also created a map of Victoria, pinpointing where youth are able to find free hygiene products in the City of Victoria.
